More Info:
Joe Meek will always be remembered as Britain's first independent pop record producer, whose multi-million selling international No.1 hit record Telstar (which he also wrote) was the first record by a British band to make No.1 in the U.S.A., at Christmas 1962 - well over a year before the Beatles did so. The selection of recordings on this CD is taken from Joe's first three years as an independent record producer. They show what a tremendous variety of musical styles he was capable of producing in his tiny studio, whilst at the same time most are immediately recognisable as his productions, by his trademark echo, compression and, sometimes, speeding. Particularly since his death, Joe's unique sounds have gained a worldwide following.
