RSD Black Friday 2022
We’re All Going to the World’s Fair marks the first-ever film score from singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Alex G. A haunting sonic companion to Jane Schoenbrun’s 2022 thriller about a shy teenage girl who becomes immersed in an online horror game, the soundtrack features a collection of original songs and score music written for the film by the Philadelphia-based musician. Vacillating between Alex G’s signature style of lo-fi bedroom pop and more ambient, sprawling instrumentals, the expansive soundscape is deeply intimate and affecting, capturing the search for connection at the heart of the unnerving coming-of-age story. This RSD Black Friday release comes pressed on seafoam green vinyl.

Jazz and blues pianist/vocalist/composer Mose Allison has been described as "one of the finest songwriters of 20th century blues." This 1978 live recording features Allison playing his usual repertoire, in a trio with bassist Tom Rutley (bass) and drummer Jerry Granelli (drums). Since Allison only recorded one album during the years 1973 to 1981, this well-recorded live set is quite valuable.
Most of the material is fairly familiar, but the singer's spirited delivery and interplay with the audience make this recording rare. It ain't about technology, it's about these transcendent versions of Allison classics performed with sidemen who get it, for people who dig it -- the real deal. Highlights include "Wildman on the Loose," "Swinging Machine," "I Live the Life I Love," "I Ain't Got Nothin' But the Blues" and "Your Mind Is on Vacation." Recorded Live March 26, 1978 at the Showboat Lounge, Silver Springs, MD.

This special 3” record, designed to play on the RSD3 mini-turntable joins the 3” Czarface & MF Doom catalog for RSD Black Friday.

Back by popular demand, this vinyl reissue of Truth, Liberty & Soul - Live In NYC: The Complete 1982 NPR Jazz Alive! Recorded at Avery Fisher Hall in New York City on June 27, 1982, as part of George Wein’s Kool Jazz Festival, it features Jaco leading a 22-piece big band with a congregation of the top jazz musicians on the New York scene at the time such as Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Randy Brecker, Jon Faddis, Frank Wess, Lew Soloff, Howard Johnson, and legendary harmonica player Toots Thielemans. "History and legend have often found their way into my songs," reflects Grant-Lee Phillips. "But sometimes, I don't have to look quite so far to find inspiration." The ten songs on Grant-Lee Phillips' Walking in the Green Corn are drawn from Phillips intensive investigations into his native lineage. Phillips, who is Muskogee (Creek), elliptically explores the intersection of past and present, personal and political. While the songs delve deeply into the subconscious mystery of his own backstory, they simultaneously reveal the resonance and insight of ancient myth in parallel to contemporary man's emotions, actions, and errors. With the exception of violin and vocals by Sara Watkins (formerly of Nickel Creek) and an understated vibraphone part by Alexander Burke, everything on Walking in the Green Corn was performed, sung, and engineered by Phillips. For the album's 10th anniversary, Walking in the Green Corn is getting its first-ever vinyl reissue on turquoise color vinyl. This edition also includes a bonus 45 single (also on turquoise color vinyl) of two totally unreleased tracks: "Billy Bowlegs" and "Red River." This is the first time the album has ever been available on color vinyl. Although they only released two albums during their 1960s heyday, Michigan's Question Mark and the Mysterians were a significant influence upon garage rock and an inspiration for punk rock. Led by Chicano rocker Rudy Martinez who created an enigmatic mystique and image making him one of the first Mexican rockers.

The 14-track set includes a 1966 demo of "Are You for Real?" along with a 1998 concert recording of "I Need Somebody." The United By Fate Deluxe Edition features an additional disc with ten extra bonus tracks. This includes every official United By Fate b-side, all Rival Schools tracks from their 2001 split with Onelinedrawing (never before released on vinyl) as well as a never before heard acoustic version of the song Holding Sand performed by Walter in Berlin. Moreso, this collector’s edition is housed in a hard-cover linen case with stamped lettering, holding a hardcover sixty-four page book featuring handwritten lyrics and never-before-seen photos from the band’s personal archives.
Rival Schools started as the once-new project of vocalist/guitarist Walter Schreifels, who as a member of Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits and Quicksand routinely reinvented the sound of hardcore. In Rival Schools he was joined by bandmates Ian Love, Cache Tolman and Sammy Siegler, whose other projects at the time include Iceburn, CIV and Glassjaw. United By Fate was a turning point, offering melodies rather than the abject fury and aggression of those earlier bands – and the result echoes still today serving as an influence for bands in the hardcore world and beyond.

Pete Rock is widely recognized as one of the greatest hip-hop producers of all time. His name is oft included in the pantheon of the greatest, alongside DJ Premier, RZA and J Dilla. In addition, Pete has one of the world’s most extensive vinyl collections, the sort of collection whose size can only be estimated – and that estimate stands in excess of 100,000 LPs.
In 2019 Rock launched his own imprint, Tru Soul Records, with the release of Return Of The SP-1200 which debuted exclusively on RSD 2019. For RSD Black Friday, Pete Rock goes back to his roots – the SP-1200 and his vinyl – to debut Return Of The SP-1200 Volume 2 in a unique colored vinyl pressing.

Since he was the legendary wild man of the Kinks -- the man responsible for their proto-heavy metal guitars, the battling brother of Ray -- it's been easy to pigeonhole Dave Davies as just a hard rocker but anybody who paid close attention to his solo work would know that he has a spiritual, even mystical, dimension to his music which shines through clearly on this classic Dave Davies album.
Originally released in 2007, Fractured Mindz was Dave’s first release after a stroke several years earlier -- a musical journey with The Kinks' guitarist with stops for fame and fortune, sibling rivalry and stroke recovery. First time on vinyl! 2XLP with etching on 4th side.

"Parody is in safe hands with the Dead Milkmen."
-The Los Angeles Times, Metaphysical Graffiti review, 1990
The Giving Groove is proud to present the first vinyl reissue of The Dead Milkmen’s classic album Metaphysical Graffiti, now remastered with bonus material. Fans have cherished hits such as "If You Love Somebody, Set Them on Fire" and "Methodist Coloring Book," but since the Enigma label’s initial release in 1990, copies of the original pressing have become increasingly difficult to unearth. The remastered album will be offered as a limited-edition variant, pressed exclusively for Record Store Day Black Friday 2022. Housed in a gatefold jacket, bonus materials will include:
• A reproduction of the Methodist Coloring Book. Penned by Dean Clean’s wife, Melissa, the coloring book was printed as a promotional item for the 1990 release and has never been made commercially available.
• Four of the album’s songs, which the band loving refers to as “The Earls,” have been pulled from the 12” and given their own 7” vinyl (pressed on snot-colored brown and green variants) with new artwork.
• An interior jacket designed with never-before-seen photos, text about the model house that is featured on the front cover, and Dandrew’s recounting: "Everything I Needed to Know About Culture I Learned from Metaphysical Graffiti”.
• The 12” sleeve featuring the original art, lyrics, and credits.
• A QR code to download the remastered album digitally as a compliment to the vinyl.
As with all Giving Groove releases 100% of the label’s profit benefits a music-related charity. The Dead Milkmen have chosen to support Rock to the Future, a 501(c)3 organization that equips Philadelphia youth with life skills to support current and lifelong wellbeing through free, student-driven music programs.

Thanks to Foo Fighter Dave Grohl and friends, DREAM WIDOW lives.
DREAM WIDOW is the malevolent creation of Dave Grohl (handling vocals, guitar, bass and drums) and lead guitarist Jim Rota of Fireball Ministry renown. Assisted on a few tracks by keyboardists Rami Jaffee and Oliver Roman, Grohl and Rota make good on the sinister promise to blur the lines between reality and darkest fantasy.
The name and mythos of DREAM WIDOW will be familiar to those who’ve laughed and screamed watching Foo Fighters’ horror-comedy feature film, STUDIO 666. In the film, Foo Fighters attempt to record their newest album in the same house where the legendary — and fictional — DREAM WIDOW met its tragic and untimely end — with hilariously horrifying consequences.
The vinyl version of this eight song collection is a limited pressing exclusive to independent record stores for RSD Black Friday.

Two remixes, ‘Love Is Lost’ (Hello Steve Reich Mix by James Murphy for the DFA), a ten-minute opus by LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy and the Venetian Mix of ‘I’d Rather Be High’ were added plus the Japanese bonus track "The Informer".

This rare and underappreciated 1973 Impulse! title features a host of influential L.A. musicians and was an important element in the label’s ‘West Coast contingent' of the early 1970s. The album's distinct L.A. sound and energy continue to resonate in modern music circles, from the West Coast Get Down to Carlos Gabriel Niño to Mark de Clive-Lowe. Saracho became disillusioned and left the music business not long after this album was released. Now, his remarkable story and music are re-emerging, ripe for re-evaluation, with this 180g reissue.

They are rap’s first great duo, one that excelled as rappers and producers. They are among the most-sampled rap acts of all time, their tunes having been mined by Jay-Z, DMX, 2Pac and Tha Alkaholiks, among many others. They introduced funk-styled production to rap, paving the way for Dr. Dre’s The Chronic. And even though their own rap skill was immense, they are also the best talent scouts in rap history, introducing the likes of Redman, Das EFX and Keith Murray. Then they broke up and reunited to rave reviews. The group is EPMD, undisputed legends in the rap game.
Celebrating their rich history, RBC Records releases an exclusive limited edition version of their highly respected reunion album We Mean Business, their first album on their own EP Records and their seventh overall.
“All of our albums have Business in the title,” Smith explains. “Now that we’re in a new era and the game is changed, we realize that it’s different from when we handed in a CD to our first label to being at Def Jam. Erick and I created our own vehicle to be able to drop this album. That’s how we came with the title We Mean Business, because we do.”
EPMD updates its classic sound and sentiment on “Listen Up,” a funk-drenched song complete with a talk box and featuring the one and only Mr. Teddy Riley. Recognizing EPMD’s status as pioneers, Sermon acknowledges how important his lyrics are: “Can’t talk ignorant/I got some intelligent folks that’s digging it.”
Those same folks will be digging We Mean Business song “Roc Da Spot,” a throwback of sorts to “You Gots To Chill,” one of 1988’s most acclaimed rap singles. “The beat had that EPMD sound, as far as the claps,” Sermon says. “It had a familiarity to it because of the sound and, 20 years later, we’ve still got that funk coming.”
“It’s very important for us to stay us,” Smith adds. “People want to hear and see EPMD.” That’s because We Mean Business isn’t just an album title for EPMD. It’s a mindstat

Touring in support of their fifth studio album, Airborne, The Flying Burrito Brothers performed at the legendary New York City venue, The Bottom Line on August 18, 1976. This 12-track set features many of their classic songs alongside a few C&W standards. The group's lineup consisted of Skip Battin and Gene Parsons (both ex-Byrds band members), along with Gib Guilbeau, Joel Scott Hill and original Burrito, pedal steel legend, "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow. This live recording is previously unreleased.
"1976 was a great year for re-iteration of the Flying Burrito Brothers having the opportunity to travel throughout the USA celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the United States. Though Gram Parsons wasn't around anymore, Chris Hillman embarked on a solo career, and Chris Ethridge had just departed this band, we had some great guys that just happened to be real familiar with the 'Burrito' mentality. It all came together quite spectacularly! To begin, Gib Guilbeau was my life-long pal and Cajun guy par excellence. Gene Parsons, formerly of the Byrds, was he drummer from hell who lifted the excitement to the limit (and picked a great banjo and string bender guitar. What can I say about Joel Scott Hill? A rebel? A reverent fanatic? A soulful and emotional artist? ALL of the above! Then there is Skip Battin, who just joined the band whom everyone loved and called friend who provided very original bass and vocal support. All these cuts are genuine items from a live performance at New York City's legendary "Bottom Line" club with all the warts AND magical moments. No fix ups and no apologies. Just real music and true enthusiasm. This was the way it was when he hit the road in 1976!"

Not since Ray Davies has a songwriter been able to craft such sharply observed vignettes in the space of a three-minute pop song like the late Adam Schlesinger. And on 2007’s Traffic and Weather, Fountains of Wayne’s fourth album, Schlesinger took his art to a new level, singing short stories as varied as crushing on a DMV clerk ("Yolanda Hayes"), celebrating the sexiness of a car not generally considered sporting ("92 Subaru"), being broke ("Strapped for Cash") and having luggage lost by an airline ("Michael and Heather at the Baggage Claim"). And while it lacks a radio-friendly hit like “Stacy’s Mom”—it should be mentioned that Chris Collingwood only contributed three songs to this record—there are still earworms aplenty, particularly on “I-95,” Collingwood’s “Seatbacks and Traytables,” and the title tune. Finally out on vinyl, this Real Gone release comes with a printed inner sleeve featuring lyrics and in a gold with black swirl pressing limited to 5000 copies worldwide, exclusively for RSD Black Friday!

San Jose-based ska pop-punkers Smash Mouth went double platinum with their 1997 debut record Fush Yu Mang (the title came from Al Pacino slurring “F*** you, man” in the film Scarface), on the strength of their huge hit “Walkin’ on the Sun.” But the rest of the album is pretty rad ‘n’ rockin’, full of classic rock winks and nods culminating in their skankin’ cover of War’s “Why Can’t We Be Friends.” And who hasn’t looked at a crowded bar through a pair of Beer Goggles? Released in 1974, Aqua is the first solo album by Tangerine Dream's frontman Edgar Froese. After Austin-based Scratch Acid disbanded, caterwauling vocalist David Yow and bassist David Wm. Sims moved to Chicago, where they formed The Jesus Lizard and proceed to make a glorious racket throughout the ‘90s and beyond. Shot was their first major label release (for Capitol in 1996) and their first one without famed underground producer Steve Albini, but GGGarth (Melvins, L7) ably filled Albini’s large shoes behind the board, cleaning up the sound a bit while losing none of The Jesus Lizard’s grungy, menacing mania (check out “Thumbscrews” and “Skull of a German”). Trailer Bride's 1996 self-titled record is a long-lost relic of the blooming Chapel Hill, North Carolina music scene of the '90s. Superchunk, Polvo, Archers of Loaf and other indie rock darlings were leading the town's indie rock movement while Southern Culture on the Skids were pushing the alt-country genre forward. Then comes Trailer Bride who combined both of those worlds with a gothic, lo-fi sound that centers around Melissa Swingle's atmospheric vocals and cryptic lyrics. Swingle started Trailer Bride following the demise of her band Pussy Teeth and would later go on to form the indie rock duo The Moaners with Laura King (Bat Fangs, Speed Stick), but the dark, southern sound that defines Trailer Bride's debut record provides a mystifying listening experience a quarter-century later. No Depression said it best in their 1997 review: "They're impossible to describe, but whatever you wanna call it, they sound really good." The album is available for the first time ever on vinyl for Record Store Day Black Friday 2022. This 25th anniversary edition is pressed on cloudy orange vinyl and remastered for vinyl. Despite being one of Memphis’s most long-running, prolific and popular gospel groups, The Jubilee Hummingbirds’ story remains largely unwritten. Early members O.V. Wright and James Carr — both of whom crossed over into secular music while singing with The Jubilee Hummingbirds — have guaranteed their mention in soul circles, but for a group with such a presence in their home city, and a generous multi-label discography that began on wax in the mid-‘60s and continues to this day, the Hummingbirds are a living, breathing example of the ever-present yet invisible place that gospel music, by its very design, can occupy.
Their 1983 LP, Gospel Express, was just one chapter in the rich history of The Jubilee Hummingbirds, but a significant one that deserves a deep focus. They were a little over halfway through their eighty-four-years-and-counting history when these recordings were made and they’re still singing today, now under the leadership of William "Redd" Watson. In 1983, shortly after Watson joined the group the ‘Birds landed on Bishop Bobby King’s Gospel Express imprint. The vinyl-hustling enigma behind such street-level setups as Hub-City and Home-Boys, King was a ghetto gospel impresario who went by so many different names that much of his activity is still a mystery. King’s calling card was the cut-and-paste album cover, which was almost ahead of its time in its crudely-collaged aesthetic. Gospel Express is being given a second lease on life in this RSD Black Friday edition.

For a certain generation of hip-hop fans, just the mention of Kid ‘n’ Play brings on a wave of nostalgia. The group released three full length albums between 1988 and 1991 with a focus on positive lyrics and pop-friendly production. The success of the group’s music led to countless House Party films (well, some have counted), a Saturday morning cartoon show and even a series of comic books for Marvel (so yes, technically speaking, Kid ‘n’ Play are part of the Marvel Universe).
It all started here on 1988’s 2 Hype which features “Do The Kid 'n Play Kick Step” (the musical accompaniment to their trademark dance), “Rollin With Kid ‘n Play” which hit #11 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart and of course Kid's now classic hi-top fade haircut, which measured up to over six inches high at its peak. Producer Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor, instrumental in the success of Salt-N-Pepa, was certainly a factor and the full length went on to Billboard Top 200 and RIAA certified gold status.
Unavailable on vinyl for decades, Select Records presents 2 Hype in a colored vinyl pressing exclusive to RSD Black Friday.

The story of Stark Reality… Discovers The Hoagy Carmichael Music Shop begins with Hoagy Carmichael’s son, Hoagy Bix Carmichael. Nearing 30 and working on Wall Street, Bix wanted to do something more worthwhile. He relocated to Boston and started working at WGBH, one of the country’s most innovative PBS stations. There he met Monty Stark, WGBH’s resident “music man.” When Bix set out to create an all new WGBH program, Hoagy Carmichael’s Music Shop, a children’s show revolving around his father’s 1958 children’s album Hoagy Carmichael’s Havin’ A Party, Stark was tapped to do the music. The resulting reimagination of Hoagy Carmichael’s recording was used for the show, and issued on jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal’s AJP label. The recording features Monty Stark on vibes, saxophonist Carl Atkins, Phil Morrison on bass, Vinnie Johnson on drums and John Abercrombie on guitar.
For RSD Black Friday, Now-Again Records debuts a fresh reissue of this fascinating link between the great American song book, the jazz rock movement of the late ‘60s/early ‘70s and even hip-hop, being that Stark Reality… Discovers The Hoagy Carmichael Music Shop has been sampled by artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Large Professor, J-Live and Madlib.
