Jerry Garcia Band
Fall 1989: The Long Island Sound
ATO

This latest edition of the Jerry Garcia Live Series is a doozy: Fall 1989: Long Island Sound is a 6 CD Set featuring two complete, previously unreleased performances mastered from original soundboard recordings captured during the Jerry Garcia Band's Fall 1989 East Coast tour which featured fellow Grateful Dead co-founder and guitar/vocalist Bob Weir with bassist Rob Wasserman as the opening act. Fall 1989: The Long Island Sound highlights the September 5th, 1989 performance at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, CT and September 6th, 1989 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, NY. The Fall 1989 Jerry Garcia Band features the classic line-up represented on three previous releases: Jerry Garcia Band, How Sweet It Is, and Pure Jerry: Meriwether Post Pavilion - September 1 & 2, 1989. Naturally, you should collect them all, but, with its embarrassment of riches, Fall 1989: Long Island Sound is a must-have for the hardcore Deadhead in your life.

Del McCoury Band
The Streets Of Baltimore
McCoury Music

At 74 years old banjo player extraordinaire Del McCoury is a living legend. Though he already had a long and prestigious career, it was when he and his sons formed The Del McCoury Band in 1988 that his music found a wider audience thanks to burgeoning festival circuit (Phish are big fans) and making high-profile collaborations with admirers such as Steve Earle. Though the group’s last two albums - 2012's tribute to Bill Monroe (Old Memories) and 2011's Preservation Hall Band collaboration (American Legacies) - were recorded with themes in mind, this The Streets of Baltimore finds the band at their most relaxed – although it is still anchored by a simple premise. The title is a reference to McCoury's early days when he got his start playing Baltimore honky-tonks in the late 1950s. These old school country influences are present on the album, which includes renditions of tunes like Bobby Bare's “Streets of Baltimore,” Brenda Lee's “Too Many Rivers,” Jerry Lew Lewis' “Once More With Feeling” and a take on Ray Stevens' banjo-driven version of “Misty.”
Kid ink
My Own Lane
RCA Records

Kid Ink is instantly recognizable. That's not just because he lives up to his nickname with tattoos from head-to-toe either. Whether he's rapping or producing, the Los Angeles artist approaches music from a limitless perspective. He can go hard over a verse with the best of them, but he can also craft an anthemic beat from behind the board. As soon as you hear his full-length debut, My Own Lane, you'll know it's Kid Ink. Professionally, he honed his production skills by collaborating with the likes of Sean "Diddy" Combs, Sean Kingston, Yung Berg, and more. Now, with a string of highly successful independent releases, sold out tours, and an upcoming clothing line under his belt, My Own Lane -- Kid Ink’s leap into the mainstream – is icing on an already sweet, sweet cake. But none of that would matter without the songs: Fans of the Odd Future crew, Drake, and Wale (who makes an appearance here) will be delightfully hyped.

For over a decade, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings has traveled the world, blowing minds with their explosive live performances and their raw, handcrafted studio recordings. While other artists have ridden the crests and troughs of passing fads, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings have bypassed the hype-and-hit superhighway and taken a detour straight to the hearts and bodies of their listeners, transcending fleeting trends and demographics and delivering a visceral rhythm and soul sound to an ever-expanding base of deeply loyal fans – and you won’t find a more energizing live show: At 57, Jones (a former Riker’s Island prison guard), shakes, shimmies, sings, and shouts with an energy that puts today’s young pop starlets to shame – and without resorting lip synching... And given she recently overcame a brief bout with cancer, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings return is all the more triumphant. Give the People What They Want is poised to become not only an iconic album from a prolific band, but a fixture in the canon of Soul Music. The album lifts off with “Retreat!," an up-tempo stomper with ominous, thundering arrangements, and marches directly into the pulsing Detroit-flavored soul of "Stranger To My Happiness" before easing back down into the mellow feel-good anthem “We Get Along”. Track after track, Give the People What They Want delivers every bit of the unbridled soul and studio acumen that defines this bands’ universally loved sound. You need this.
