The first weapon drawn in a conflict is language, but the first weapon drawn for Czarface is music. Wu-Tang Clan's Inspectah Deck & Esoteric carved a niche for Czarface with venomous vocals, but the musical production is their super power. Powered by the trademark sound of 7L and Todd Spadafore (The Czar-Keys), a sound that's been developed since Czarface's first LP in 2013, First Weapon Drawn serves as the soundtrack to Czarface's mysterious origin. Fresh off of their collaboration with Marvel Comics, Czarface has not only delivered a new audio adventure complete with narration, it has given us an extra large, full color, action-packed 24 page comic book with it, housed in a beautiful gatefold jacket! In the spirit of the highly sought after Power Records series from the 70's, you can read along with the comic and hear the story come to life on vinyl.

"More than 20 years since our first album was released, we are frequently flattered by fans expressing how much our music meant to them. We are often asked if we have a new album in the works. So far, the answer has been no. But for a while now, we’ve been thinking of issuing an album of unreleased songs for our fans around the world. With the encouragement of a few close friends, the idea grew and soon we were rummaging through our old tape archives. So, what you have here is not an album of new songs, but a collection of old songs from the time of our previous albums. Songs that never went beyond the demo stage. We hope and hope and hope that you will enjoy them in all their low-hi-fi glory." --Nuclear Valdez

Almost a year to the day from the release of Suuns' most-far reaching and creative record Hold/Still comes an album of remixes. Spanning an incredibly diverse range of artists and sounds, each one of these remixes takes the original track and twists and turns it into some very unique. The source material leant itself perfectly to a remix project - these are songs that are complex, layered, experimental. The remixes vary from the dancefloor fillers from the likes of Redshape or Marvin & Guy through to the ambience of Lee Gamble and Beatrice Dillon and the techno of VRIL, and shows Suuns as one of the most forward thinking and fertile bands around. Time to go and get lost. Comes as a double, colored, limited vinyl.

U-Roy was a true reggae pioneer, dubbed The Originator for good reason. Bursting onto the Jamaican scene in the earliest 1970s, he pioneered the vocal approach called “toasting,” which in addition to branching out Jamaican music into a new era, was also heavily influential on an American genre in its infancy: rapping. U-Roy’s style and charisma are always on display, and – as with all of his classic records – the groove rules all. Presented for Record Store Day 2017 on black vinyl with a poster of the glorious, ganja-drenched cover art, it’s the perfect chance to revisit one of the more underrated voices in Jamaican musical history.

* Official Record Store Day title * Limited to 3,000 copies on “Angel Shock” color wax * Never before released in any format * Audio restored and remastered from original film transfers * LP housed in a deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket * Includes 20-page book with rare archive photos and liner notes Q&A with writer/director David Weisman Edie Sedgwick was the true “It Girl” of the Pop Art age; a woman who famously said she wanted "to turn the world on just for a moment". Part of Andy Warhol's Factory for a year in the mid-'60s, she is widely believed to have inspired The Velvet Underground's “Femme Fatale” as well as Bob Dylan's “Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat” and “Just Like A Woman”. 1973's Ciao! Manhattan, the model and actor's final film, gave some indication of why she inspired such devotion. Written and directed by Factory affiliates John Palmer and David Weisman, the movie tells a quasi-fictionalised account – a chronicle à clef in Weisman's words – of Sedgewick's journey from New York to Santa Barbara. In the film, Sedgwick is Susan Superstar, a New Yorker who winds up living in a drained Santa Barbara swimming pool in a narcotic daze, life and art just a hair away from each other. Shot over a five year period, Sedgwick died of a barbiturate overdose at the age of 28 before filming wrapped in 1971. For a movie starring some of rock's great muses, the soundtrack fittingly features cult figures of the era: Richie Havens (“Shouldn't All The World Be Dancing”, “To Give All Your Love Away”, “I Can’t Make It Anymore”), John Phillips (“Malibu People”) and Byrds/Flying Burrito Brothers member Skip Battin, who performs Kim Fowley's “Citizen Kane”. Other artists are less well-known, including actor Kim Milford, who sings the stirring “Justice”, and Factory man Gino Piserchio, an artist and dear friend of Weisman, whose synthesizer compositions anchor the score. Never before released in any format, this long-overdue pressing includes all of the above plus selected dialogue from the film, each snippet like a beat poem in its own way. The Village Voice once called Ciao! “The Citizen Kane of the drug generation"; deeply evocative of the era, the mood of the soundtrack captures the psychedelic spirit of the film, as well as the darkness and tragedy that characterized Edie's life.
Angel Shock - Gino Piserchio Malibu People - John Phillips “Bad karma…” - [dialogue] Citizen Kane - Skip Battin & Kim Fowley To Give All Your Love Away - Richie Havens Driving Verdecchio - Gino Piserchio "Turn the whole world on just for a moment…” - [dialogue] Night Riders - Gino Piserchio “Open the door!” - [dialogue] I Can’t Make It Anymore - Richie Havens "Wake up!” - [dialogue] Justice - Kim Milford Revolution of the Youth - Gino Piserchio “Anyway I’m a star!” - [dialogue] Doctor Feelgood - Gino Piserchio “Meth burns your brain cells out…” - [dialogue] Shouldn’t All The World Be Dancing? - Richie Havens

The Bevis Frond emerged fully-formed from the skull of British rock, and Pitchfork called it "A Cult Favorite". This white vinyl reissue of the heavy third offering from Nick Saloman bursts with 60s-psych and includes epic track ""Tangerine Infringement Beak"" clocking in at nearly 20 minutes, "Into The Cryptic Mist" and "Lights Are Changing" a song that went on to be covered by Mary Lou Lord. A labour of love and fiercely independent, his prolific output has seen as many releases in as many years and an uncompromising vision under his own label Woronzow. Hailed as “a Hendrix devotee every bit as tough and contemporary as the serrated guitar chorales of Sonic Youth and Pixies” by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, his immense psych-stoner-rock has seen him become a cult figure in his own right. The Bevis Frond’s legion of loyal fans includes Teenage Fanclub, Dinosaur Jr and Mary Lou Lord, who have all covered his music.

Guitar mastery meets the space age bachelor pad with a healthy mix of controversy. The Astro-Sound of Magnificence, from Beyond the Year 2000...a unique capsule of a funky, psychedelic rhythm section jamming, with snarling, stabbing and swooshing cranked-up-to-infinity electric guitar voyages piloted by Wrecking Crew veteran Jerry Cole, polished and primed for takeoff with a string section playing eerie, beckoning melodies in unison. These are the sounds of epiphanies concerning the future, space and sounds on the horizon, circa 1969. The tracks for this album were recorded by Cole and other players during sessions for a separate longplayer and were deemed to be outtakes; the details as to how they became Astro Sounds From Beyond the Year 2000 are dark and distant, but the 10 tracks here were first issued sans strings in 1967 as The Animated Egg, with alternate song titles. Two years later the recordings were overdubbed with the swirling, piercing phase-shifted strings mix you hear here, creating a spectacular fusion of psych-rock, R&B, easy listening and fuzz guitar, with hints of the coming worlds of ambient and electronica. These truly are the far out sounds of tomorrow’s unchartered trip, as the original album jacket proclaims—come aboard, launch and listen. Available on gold vinyl or CD.

THE FIRST RELEASE FROM FRANKIE AND THE WITCH FINGERS - PREVIOUSLY ONLY AVAILABLE ON CASSETTE IN EXTREMELY LIMITED QUANTITY! "From the moment you start the titular title track on their debut album, Sidewalk, you can hear a deep appreciation for late 60’s and early 70’s psychedelia, refined and captured in the same emphatic and impulsive way, while dragging tricks and sounds from the last fifty years along for the ride. While Frankie And The Witch Fingers seem to incorporate a few more dissonant sounds and breaks, think 13th Floor Elevators or The Velvet Underground, to really spice up the sound and add a level of dissonance to the tightly crafted garage pop melodies, that just seem to melt out of your speakers. Reverberation and fuzz dosed guitars shimmer and undulate in the songs, while echoed vocals float above the instruments, blending in and out of fits of distortion and rave-ups. The bass and drums are like calm pounding waves, powerful enough to chip away at a mountain with out raising an un-needed racket while doing so. Tracks slowly build moment and break into amazing walls of sound and distortion, before fading back into the shadows to reveal the skeletal melody of the song again to let you take it all back in one more time before you’re done. My favorite tracks are when they just hit the gas though, pounding riffs and thundering bass twisting together like a Porsche hitting a lamp post at a hundred and eighty miles an hour, taking your mind along for the ride! Some of the best garage rock you’re gonna hear this side of 1969!" - It's Psychedelic Baby Magazine
Cabinet Of Curios is the first ever career-spanning compilation of the solo work of Jowe Head, who contributed to Swell Maps, Television Personalities, and later on his personal projects such as Palookas, and Househunters. "If one looks at the galaxy of stars that can be attributed as source material for today's musical DIY/lo-fi generation, Jowe Head shines as a true iconoclast. His 1973 addition to the avant-garage godfathers Swell Maps added an impressionistic edge to their psychedelic punk pastiche that drew of Max Ernst as ably as Can. Later on in The Television Personalities and his Househunters and Palookas projects, not to mention a sprawling solo discography, Jowe's persona injected color and livelihood into an often-too-cool-for-school post-punk scene around Britain while still delivering transportative sounds and open-to-the-listener interpretations. This compendium is in itself a galaxy of sounds that will never fail to deliver." --Brian Turner, WFMU Music Director

Originally found on Jansch’s final album of the same name, ‘The Black Swan’ is featured here on a 7” single, flanked by an early demo. The two songs are at parallels; where the demo shows the bare bones of the track (working title: 'Space Highway’), the finished article is something altogether more orchestral, with Helena Espvall’s (then of Espers) soaring cello providing a foil for Jansch’s supremely melodic refrain. Fans will surely be intrigued to see the process involved in the evolution of ‘Black Swan’ - the paradox in the two versions each beautiful in its own way. Artwork again comes from Earth collaborator Hannah Alice, with her own interpretation of The Black Swan’s plumage. Remastered by Brian Pyle. Limited to 2000 worldwide.

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of UGK’s first album, Get On Down goes the extra mile, presenting it for the first time ever on vinyl. AND 2-LP clear vinyl at that, giving the strutting, funky grooves the chance to really stretch out on your system. Back in 1992, Southern hip-hop was still proving to the world that it could sustain a fan base that was chiefly raised on rap from New York and LA. The Geto Boys and 2 Live Crew had made strong cases by the earliest ‘90s, and Pimp C and Bun B were ready to make their own. Most of the trunk-bumping bass comes from drum programs and basic sampling on these tunes – in later years they would build their sound into something even fuller and deeper. Self-produced with additional work from Houston locals Bernie Bismark and Shetoro Henderson, the tracks here are minimal, slow and menacing, which matched their lyrical approach quite nicely. Too Hard To Swallow made it clear to the world that the U.G.K. crew had the attitude and charisma to make even bigger waves in the years to come.

Musically reared in the church and juke-joints of their native southern state, the twins have been performing since they were children, listening to music that included gospel, Motown and Pink Floyd.
